Hybrids vs long Irons

Hybrids v Long Irons

For a while now there has been an ongoing debate about rescues. Are they for everyone, or specifically for the older person or only for short hitter?

The answer is dependent on a couple of things.

Firstly, how confident are you with your longer irons? 3 and 4 irons can be incredibly hard clubs to hit.

Many players believe that they must persevere with long irons, but at the end of the day, what is the point in persevering with clubs you are not confident with. You will convince yourself before you have hit the ball it is going to be a bad shot.

There is a possibility you are doing something in your swing which is causing you problems, if this is the case then maybe a lesson or 2 is the way to go before throwing the long irons away permanently.

A hybrid club for most people is a more consistent club then long irons. The important parts to choosing a rescue are to consider the loft, length and size of the head. These all contribute to the length of shots the club will produce. It is important to get a rescue that goes the distance you need rather than having one for the sake of it.

The second aspect to consider is do you hit the ball high or low. Rescue woods tend to produce a higher flight so if you struggle to hit your long irons high rescues woods would possibly be a better option.

If you are considering purchasing a rescue wood, then you can pop in and try some out.
